It has been a while since I did anything with this blog. We have travelled to Scotland and Western Europe. Covered over 10,000 miles, seen some amazing places and learnt a great deal along the way

What did we take away from our last travels?

Although we had an amazing time and made so many memories we are very conscious that we tried to do too much.

We were always moving – we were on the road for about 180 days and stayed in 170 different places. Whilst that was fantastic in its own way we found we were never in one place long enough to really get to know the places and the people,

We kept a handwritten diary of everything we saw and did, but we didn’t really allow ourselves time to properly keep records, index photos, update social media and websites and so on.

So we have made a conscious decision this time around to slow everything down. There are still so many places we want to go, so many things we want to see and do. But we have realized that we don’t have to do it all at once. So that’s what we are going to do. Slow everything down, really enjoy the places we visit, hopefully meet some of the local people and get to know them a little better. Take time to keep everything up to date, write more blogs, increased social media posts, generally better record keeping. And we will get as far as we get. what we don’t get around to this time will be there for the next adventure.

So what's happening next?

We were planning on setting off at the end of this month. We have to go back to Kent in November to have some work done on the motorhome -new clutch, cam belt and a couple of other minor fixes, including a new radio. Our brother-in-law is a very experienced mechanic and has offered to do the work for us. We also want to get a thermal windscreen cover which has proved to be more of a challenge than anticipated, but that’s a whole nother story!

However, as it will be so close to Christmas by the time everything is sorted we are both quite keen to put off our departure until early in the new year so we can spend Christmas with the family before we go. This is, of course, dependent on us being able to continue to work

So where to next?

The truth is we don’t have a clue!

The plan was to go into France and turn left. That’s it!

However, we might need to rethink that a little bit! If we don’t go until January then central Europe can be very cold. We may need to hot-foot it south to warmer parts before we settle into a routine.

There is also the Schengen rule to bear in mind. The rolling 90 day rule in every 180, so we are definitely going to have to break things up by visiting non-schengen countries. We have talked about Croatia as one place we would like to visit before they enter the fold, but there are many more such as  Albania, Andora, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Ireland, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, The United Kingdom and Vatican City. Some are places it would be unwise to visit at the moment, but there is still plenty of scope!
